Redvers House Building Refurbishment
The Challenge
Redvers House is a building providing quality student accommodation that was being internally refurbished by the Minton Group. The external façade had been inspected on a number of occasions by Vertical Access and repairs schedules provided to the client.
The company was appointed to undertake the external repairs to the metal cladding, delaminated and degraded tiles and concrete repairs on the roof structures
Safety
The contract required the works to be undertaken with minimal impact on the residents. Vertical Access & Apollo Cradles undertook the design supply and installation of cradle platforms on to the tiled elevations with complex access and rigging systems at roof level.
Quality
The tile works involved extensive removal of areas of delaminated and degraded tiles, concrete repairs to the substrate and careful re-instatement to achieve a close match to the original tile and grout materials. The cladding repairs were confined to sealing gaps with metal flashings and mastic repairs to joints as well as re-fixing loose sections. The window heads and reveals required extensive refurbishment due to poor repair design and execution by a previous contractor
Innovation
Scaffolding had been installed on the lower elevations and these were adapted to provide protection using fan scaffolds and uprated for specific areas of the external works.
Agility
The building had a substantial mobile phone mast installed on the roof which required some investigative work before we could have its operation shutdown for the works.
Outcome & Feedback
A comprehensive As Built report was provided to the client along with completion photos.
