Regent Court Liquid Roofing
The Challenge
The 10-storey tower block had only one roof-top hatch which allowed access to internal roof areas only. Having assessed that the installation of scaffolding would have been too costly and would have created significant manual handling issues, our team installed separate rope access systems.
The Vertical Approach: Safety, Quality, Innovation & Agility
Safety
The Vertical Access Team prioritised safety by employing a rope access system specifically designed for the project. The decision was made after assessing the site that installing scaffolding would not only be costly but could also introduce significant manual handling risks. By utilizing IRATA-certified operatives, the team ensured that all work was carried out following stringent safety protocols. In-situ counterbalance guardrail was utilised effectively to enable safe access to approximately 60% of the work area. Beyond this area rope access work restraint systems were installed and utilised to prevent the possibility of falls from height. These measures demonstrated a commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards throughout the project.
Quality
Quality was at the forefront of this project, beginning with the selection of the high-performance Centaur Centech PU 20 Liquid Roofing System. This system was chosen not only for its longevity but also for its effectiveness in providing a robust waterproof roof system, ensuring that the roof would remain protected for many years to come. The careful and thorough application process contributed to the overall quality of the installation, reflecting the team’s dedication to delivering top-tier results. Working together with Centaurs technical team ensured that the works are delivered to a very high standard enabling a guarantee to be issued to the Client.
Innovation
Faced with the challenge of a single roof-top hatch that only allowed limited access, the team adopted an innovative approach by using a combination of safe access systems(rope access and counterbalance guardrail) systems instead of traditional scaffolding. This creative solution enabled efficient and safe access to all areas of the roof while reducing manual handling, cost and complexity. Additionally, the application of Centaur Technologies Limited's Centech PU 20 Liquid Roofing System highlighted the use of advanced materials known for their durability and effectiveness. This forward-thinking choice in materials and access methods showcased the team's commitment to utilising modern solutions to overcome logistical challenges.
Agility
The project highlighted the team’s agility in responding to on-site challenges and adapting quickly. Initially confronted with limited roof access, the team’s quick assessment of access requirements utilising rope access instead of scaffolding demonstrated their ability to make efficient decisions taking into account safety, cost, and practicality. The flexibility of the rope access system allowed the operatives to access hard to reach areas adapting their techniques as needed to ensure complete coverage. This adaptability, combined with efficient problem-solving and swift implementation, was crucial to the success of the project and underscored the team’s agility in delivering results even under complex conditions.
Outcome & Feedback
Despite battling strong winds and high temperatures, our team's work was signed off by Centaur Technical, with no issues identified and were commended for their very high standards.
